Many
kids may believe that all it takes to be an astronaut is to put on a space
suit. Others might think that if you can fly an airplane then you definitely can
become an astronaut. In reality, becoming an astronaut requires a great amount
of time, skills and commitment, as people have to
go through extensive training and experiences. According to NASA, "Basic
requirements for an Astronaut Pilot include the following:
1-
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
in engineering, biological science, physical science, or mathematics.
2-
At least 1, 000 hours pilot-in command time in
jet aircraft. Flight test experience is highly desirable.
3-
Ability to pass a NASA space physical which is
similar to a military or civilian flight physical."
So to be able
to assure missions and to practice their job, astronauts go through very
specialized and intense training. They must pass a series of physical
requirements as well as comprehensive academic and mental exams
